DESIGN INNOVATION RECOGNISED:
Ballmate awarded 2025 Australian Good Design Award
We’re thrilled to announce that BALLMATE™, designed by D3 Design in collaboration with tennis expert Ron Kohn, has been recognised with an Australian Good Design Award Winner accolade in the Product Design category.
The award celebrates products that demonstrate design excellence, innovation, functionality and positive impact. BALLMATE™ impressed the judges for its simple yet ingenious approach to a longstanding challenge in tennis coaching: collecting and managing hundreds of balls efficiently, without strain.
“BALLMATE™ is an all-in-one tennis coaching tool designed to streamline ball pickup, feeding,
transport, and storage…
A standout example of design excellence. Bravo to the Design Team for bringing this clever idea to market through a professional design approach.”
— Good Design Awards Jury
Working closely with Ron Kohn of Top Serve Tennis, D3 Design developed, tested and refined a patented V-bar pick-up mechanism that allows fast ball collection with minimal effort.
The final design integrates:
- A stable, manoeuvrable trolley for smooth court mobility.
- Durable, removable ball bags with a 130-ball capacity.
- Wearable carry bags that free coaches to move quickly during drills.
- A compact folding design for easy transport and storage.
From concept sketch to fully engineered production, every detail was resolved through user-centred industrial design, mechanical engineering, 3D printing and hands-on prototyping in our Sydney studio.
